Under the direction of Robert D. James, Jr., the DeKalb County Solicitor-General's office prosecutes misdemeanor crimes filed in the State Court of DeKalb County, Georgia.  Misdemeanor crimes can carry a maximum sentence of 12 months in jail, and a $1,000 fine.  Cases under the jurisdiction of the Solicitor-General include all misdemeanor warrants initiated in the DeKalb County Magistrate’s Office; all traffic citations issued by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb County Board of Education Police, and the Georgia State Patrol; other citations issued by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, DeKalb County Park Rangers and DeKalb County Animal Control. Cases also arrive to the office via transfer from other courts and offices including the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, the Municipal and Magistrate Courts.  The office consists of 24 attorneys, 13 investigators, 6 victim and witness advocates, 19 legal secretaries, a Public Information Officer and a Community Prosecutor.  The office has seven regular divisions, and Family Protection, Records and Jail Plea divisions.
